Dear Editor,

Suzy Paluzzi's article in the Santa Clara Weekly last week relating to the "Wutzit Club Alumni Reunion" was excellent. We, the Wutzit Club Alumni Committee, wish to express our sincere and deepest gratitude to Suzy and the Weekly's photographer Christy Kinney for taking the time to stop by our fundraising event. We really appreciate how Suzy and Christy went about their business in gathering information regarding our Committee's efforts in not only keeping Father Walter E. Schmidt's name alive but also as to our fund- raising effort for youth services and activities at the City of Santa Clara Walter E. Schmidt Youth Activity Center. In 2005, an Ad Hoc Renaming Committee renamed the Santa Clara Youth Activity Center to honor Rev. Walter E. Schmidt, S. J. for his 40 + years of service to our youth. Since that time, the Wutzit Club Alumni Committee has held five annual fundraising dinner/dances, the 1st at the former VFW 3982 hall, the 2nd and 3rd at the American Legion Post 419 hall in Santa Clara and the 4th and 5th at the San Jose Elks Lodge #522. Because of these three organizations and all of the Wutzit Club alumni, friends and supporters, our Committee's total contribution to the City of Santa Clara Walther E, Schmidt Youth Activity Center will exceed $17,000. To all of you, the "Sparkletones" band and yes, to you the Santa Clara Weekly, we say, THANK YOU!
